To De-escalate Middle East Tensions, President Prabowo and Pakistani Leader Set to Visit Tehran
Jakarta, VIVA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto is reportedly planning to fly to Tehran, Iran together with the Pakistani leader to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East.
This plan was disclosed directly by Jimly Asshiddiqie, the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI).
Jimly said that Prabowo received a phone call from the Iranian leader inviting him to Tehran to lower the escalation of the conflict.
‘And I am grateful that the Pakistani Prime Minister is willing to join President Prabowo in going to Tehran,’ Jimly told journalists at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 6 March 2026.
‘So it’s not just Indonesia; that means what President Prabowo has in mind has the backing of the Pakistani Prime Minister. I forgot, Prime Minister or President of Pakistan. They will travel to Tehran together,’ he added.
Meanwhile, earlier the Minister of ATR/BPN and Nahdlatul Ulama figure Nusron Wahid said that President Prabowo’s intention to become mediator in the US-Iran conflict was welcomed by countries in the Middle East.
‘Stating the situation, it was conveyed earlier, in principle the President desires a meeting with Iran, to mediate and for Iran to open itself,’ Nusron told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, quoted Friday, 6 March 2026.
‘Then the steps taken by the President have the support of several Middle Eastern countries and other Islamic states. Including Pakistan, and also the UAE,’ he added.
Nusron declined to say much about Prabowo’s plan to mediate the US-Iran conflict. He left it entirely to Foreign Minister Sugiono.
