To Commemorate Earth Day, Gianyar Plants 300 Tree Seedlings and Prepares Urban Forest
Some 300 tree seedlings of various varieties were planted in the setra of Desa Adat Bukit Jangkrik, Samplangan Village, Gianyar, Bali. The planting of hundreds of tree seedlings served as a commemoration of Earth Day. “The tree-planting activity is a tangible form of concern for environmental conservation,” said the Secretary of the Gianyar Regency (Sekda), I Gusti Bagus Adi Widya Utama, in his statement on Wednesday (22/4/2026). Widya Utama stated that the theme “Our Power, Our Planet” was adopted for Earth Day in Gianyar this year. The theme signifies the utilisation of individual and collective power to drive positive change for the Earth. It also serves as a call for all elements of society to play an active role in protecting the environment. Climate change threats such as forest fires and droughts serve as reminders for the people of Gianyar to remain concerned with natural preservation. “The commemoration of Earth Day also becomes an important momentum to enhance awareness of environmental protection,” said Widya Utama. Widya Utama stated that the planting of hundreds of tree seedlings is not done just once for ceremonial purposes. Tree planting will continue to be carried out. Seedling cultivation efforts have also begun as an initial step in supporting the greening programme in the adat villages throughout Gianyar Regency. All Regional Device Organisations (OPD) are requested to prepare one large tree to support the development of the urban forest in Gianyar Regency. “Later, each OPD is expected to prepare one large tree as part of the urban forest development,” he said.
