PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to strengthen national energy resilience by expanding global collaborations to enhance performance in the upstream oil and gas sector.

As part of its strategic agenda in Houston, United States, Pertamina and Halliburton are aligning on the utilisation of technology to support improvements in upstream oil and gas operations.

This step follows up on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two companies in February 2026. The partnership focuses on priority collaboration areas and more concrete implementation development.

Both parties are concentrating on two priority areas: optimising the economics of multistage fracturing (MSF) and accelerating the monetisation of Indonesia’s unconventional oil and gas resources through the application of Halliburton’s operational experience in the US.

“Pertamina is focused on applying the right technology and operational models to improve upstream performance. Through collaboration with global technology leaders like Halliburton, we aim to optimise MSF economics and accelerate the development of unconventional resources in Indonesia,” stated a company representative in a press release received by Kompas.com on Thursday (7/5/2026).

From Halliburton’s side, Senior Vice President of Production Enhancement Eric Holley affirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Pertamina’s oil and gas production increases.

“Halliburton is strongly committed to collaborating with Pertamina to enhance Indonesia’s oil and gas production,” he said.

Eric added that Halliburton is ready to bring capabilities in fracturing and production enhancement to help Pertamina monetise low-quality reservoirs through MSF, while also supporting the development of Indonesia’s unconventional resources ecosystem.

As a continuation of the MoU, Pertamina and Halliburton are also exploring several new cooperation initiatives.

In addition, the two companies are exploring the development of multilateral drilling and completion, integrated asset management for mature oil and gas fields, as well as various other technology-based programmes to support efficiency and upstream production increases.

This collaboration is expected to support the implementation of pilot programmes, technology transfer, and capability development in drilling, well completion, production optimisation, and digital-based upstream operations.
