In principle, the readiness of Pekalongan Raya to realise this strategic project has been affirmed. All initial stages have also been prepared, from site determination to inter-regional cooperation agreements.

Pekalongan (ANTARA) - Four local governments in the Pekalongan Raya region, namely Pekalongan City Government, Pekalongan Regency Government, Batang, and Pemalang in Central Java, are ready to develop a modern energy-based waste management system through the construction of a Waste-to-Electricity Processing Installation (PSEL).

Pekalongan Mayor Afzan Arslan Djunaid in Pekalongan on Wednesday stated that his side has a strong commitment to addressing waste issues in the area.

“In principle, the readiness of Pekalongan Raya to realise this strategic project. All initial stages have also been prepared, from site determination to inter-regional cooperation agreements,” he said.

He stated that the construction of the PSEL installation is an important and urgent step in addressing waste problems that have long been a major challenge for local governments as well as nationally.

According to him, to date, local governments have handled around 50 percent of waste issues. However, this achievement is still considered not optimal and requires greater efforts through cross-regional collaboration.

This cooperation among the four regions, he said, is important because the minimum waste requirement for PSEL operations reaches around 1,000 tonnes per day.

“With the fulfilment of that capacity, it is hoped that there will no longer be waste accumulation in the Pekalongan Raya region. The system to be built is not just a waste disposal site but an integrated waste processing facility,” said Pekalongan Mayor Afzan Arslan Djunaid.
