TNT maintains RI operation

JAKARTA (JP): Dutch-owned courier service TNT Express Worldwide maintained its operations in Indonesia despite the recent political turmoil, the company said yesterday.

The company said in a statement that it used a Boeing 727 aircraft to carry packages in and out Jakarta every day during the turmoil.

It said the huge volume of packages carried during the period of unrest demonstrated that the events had done little to affect the country's import and export activities.

"For instance, last Monday we delivered over 1,000 imported shipments and collected over 600 shipments for export," TNT Express Worldwide Indonesia senior technical advisor Garry Kirkman said.

TNT first began to operate in Indonesia in 1979. It now has 16 branches throughout the country. (jsk)
