The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Habema Operations Command (Koops TNI Habema) successfully evacuated the body of PT AMA Air pilot Nicholas F. Goselin, who was shot dead at Ipdeheik Airstrip in Balinggama Village, Sobaham District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province, on Friday (3/7/2026). Goselin was a victim of an attack by the Free Papua Organisation (OPM).

Head of the TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen) Brigadier General Muhammad Nas explained that, concurrently with the evacuation process, Koops TNI Habema personnel continued to conduct sweeping and pursuit operations against the perpetrators of the shooting and aircraft arson. He stressed that Koops TNI Habema launched a Special Rapid Seizure Operation to control and secure the airstrip as an entry point for assistance.

They simultaneously carried out tactical search and rescue (SAR) to evacuate the victim and ensure the safety of the community around the location. “The operation involved 10 Koops TNI Habema personnel supported by two Caracal helicopters and was executed swiftly, measurably, and in a coordinated manner, given the mountainous terrain with a high level of difficulty,” Nas said in a press release in Jakarta on Friday (3/7/2026).

Nas affirmed that the TNI will continue to optimise security in the region and support tactical measures against the perpetrators. Currently, he said, Koops TNI Habema personnel have moved quickly to carry out a special operation to secure the location and evacuate the victim.

“The TNI will continue to synergise with all relevant elements in maintaining security stability, protecting the community, and supporting the law enforcement process against the perpetrators in accordance with applicable regulations,” Nas stated.

Deputy Commander of Koops TNI Habema Brigadier General Riyanto also expressed condolences over the death of the American pilot for PT AMA Air. He further emphasised Koops TNI Habema’s commitment to maintaining security in the Papua region.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our priority is to rescue victims, secure the location, protect the community, and support the law enforcement process against the perpetrators. Through the Special Rapid Seizure Operation and Tactical SAR, we ensure the evacuation process can be carried out quickly, safely, and professionally,” he said.

Riyanto explained that the operation to secure the location and pursue the perpetrators is still ongoing. Koops TNI Habema, he added, will continue to implement follow-up measures according to the developing situation on the ground, prioritising professionalism, inter-agency synergy, and community safety.
