TNI, US, Japanese and South Korean Personnel Conduct Jungle Survival Training
Jakarta (ANTARA) - TNI personnel, alongside soldiers from the US, Japan, and South Korea, are practising jungle survival skills as part of the Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026 Joint Exercise held in Teluk Pandan, Pesawaran, Lampung, on Wednesday (2/9).
According to a press release from the TNI Information Centre issued on Thursday, this activity is conducted to sharpen the capabilities of soldiers in conducting long-term operations within jungle environments.
“The Jungle Survival training aims to equip soldiers with the ability to survive in the forest through the utilisation of natural resources, terrain recognition, and basic survival skills,” stated the TNI Information Centre press release.
It was also noted that sniper training aims to hone the accuracy, concentration, patience, and self-control of the personnel.
The entire series of exercises proceeded smoothly and safely. The TNI ensured that all personnel followed the established standard security procedures throughout the training.
Through this activity, the TNI hopes to further increase the capabilities of its personnel in the field of jungle military operations.
“This activity is also expected to serve as a platform for cross-country knowledge exchange to modernise military capabilities and support stability in the Indo-Pacific region.”
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto stated that Super Garuda Shield is an annual exercise held in various regions of Indonesia from 31 August to 11 September 2026.
“Super Garuda Shield is held every year in Indonesia. There are 21 countries participating this year. The total number of personnel training is 4,743 people, covering 12 different training modules,” said Agus in Bandung, West Java, on Monday (31/8).
The 21 participating nations include Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
Agus noted that the exercises are being conducted in Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung, the Indonesian Army Combat Training Centre in Baturaja, South Sumatra, and Nunukan, North Kalimantan. The exercises are scheduled to conclude in Jakarta on 11 September 2026.
