Jakarta - A member of the DPR’s Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, has requested that TNI Headquarters conduct a comprehensive evaluation following the death of Praka Farizal Rhomadhon from the Garuda Contingent Task Force in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), who was killed in an Israeli attack in Lebanon.

TB Hasanuddin believes that the security systems and operational procedures for all Garuda Contingent personnel in conflict areas must be evaluated.

“The evaluation must include reviewing monitoring post positions to place them in safer zones, enhancing physical protection at bases, and tightening standard operating procedures during armed contacts in the duty area,” TB Hasanuddin told Kompas.com on Monday (30/3/2026).

Moreover, he stated, the safety of soldiers must be the top priority.

The retired TNI Major General further urged the government to respond to this incident seriously, focusing on two main aspects: investigation and mitigation.

He called for a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation.

“The investigation focus must determine whether the attack was an unintended impact of conflict escalation or a violation of international law in the form of a deliberate attack on peacekeeping personnel,” said TB Hasanuddin.

He continued that Indonesia must also assert that attacks on UN attributes and personnel constitute war crimes that must be followed up with full accountability from the responsible parties.

“The Foreign Ministry must conduct tight monitoring of every stage of the UNIFIL investigation, from evidence collection in the field, data analysis, to event chronology verification. The Foreign Ministry must also ensure that the rights of the fallen and injured soldiers are fulfilled, and continue to apply diplomatic pressure so that the investigation process is completed thoroughly,” he said.

It is known that one soldier from the TNI Garuda Contingent Task Force in the UNIFIL mission was killed in the Israeli attack on Lebanon, while three other soldiers were injured in the incident.

“There are casualties from TNI soldiers, namely 1 person deceased, 1 in serious condition with injuries, and 2 with minor injuries,” said the Head of Information for the Ministry of Defence Secretariat General, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, to Kompas.com on Monday (30/3/2026).

Rico assured that so far, the injured casualties have received medical treatment.

On the other hand, Rico confirmed that this incident occurred amid artillery exchanges from both sides.

“And the clarification process is still being carried out by UNIFIL,” he said.
