TNI Uncovers 5,000 Marijuana Plants in Yahukimo, Papua Highlands

The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) uncovered approximately 5,000 marijuana plants in two locations in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Highlands. The discovery was made by the RI-PNG Mobile Border Security Task Force Yonif 725/Woroagi under the TNI Habema Operations Command. Head of Information for Koops TNI Habema, Lieutenant Colonel Inf M. Wirya Arthadiguna, stated that the find was the result of a phased investigation involving field intelligence gathering. He noted that soldiers traversed steep mountainous terrain, faced unpredictable weather, and overcame difficult access routes before reaching the sites. “Upon arrival, personnel conducted data collection, documentation, and secured approximately 5,000 marijuana plants as evidence. The entire process was carried out professionally, measurably, and in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” Wirya said in a written statement on Friday (17/7). He explained that 3,000 plants were found in Kima Kompleks Village, while another 2,000 plants, along with a bow and 26 arrows, were discovered in Air Garam Village. Wirya stated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the parties responsible for the illicit fields. “Case handling is carried out through synergy between the TNI, the National Police, and relevant agencies according to their respective authorities,” he said. He added that the successful uncovering of the marijuana plants is part of Koops TNI Habema’s commitment to protecting the people of Papua, especially the younger generation, from the dangers of drug abuse.
