TNI top brass to hold meeting

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Military (TNI) top brass will meet on Wednesday in a leadership meeting at its headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

It will be the first plenary meeting of military decisionmakers this year as the country braces for the elections. The meeting also comes on the heels of the military offensive against Free Aceh Movement (GAM) rebels.

TNI spokesman Col. D.J. Nachrowi said in a release that the meeting would serve as a forum for the Army, Navy and Air Force to articulate aspirations to TNI chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto.

Endriartono is expected to address the high-ranking officers at the opening of the meeting at 8 a.m. The general will hold a media conference to mark the close of the leadership meeting at 4 p.m. -- JP
