TNI to Send Troops to Lebanon Again, DPR Reminds that Soldiers' Safety is Top Priority
Deputy Chairman of DPR RI’s Commission I, Dave Laksono, stated that the government’s and TNI’s decision to continue sending personnel to Lebanon represents Indonesia’s tangible commitment to maintaining world peace.
He assessed that the presence of Indonesian peacekeeping troops within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) not only reflects international responsibility but also strengthens Indonesia’s diplomacy in preserving regional stability.
“Commission I of DPR RI extends its highest appreciation to all soldiers who will depart,” said Dave in Jakarta on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.
Nevertheless, this Golkar politician emphasised that the safety and welfare of the soldiers in Lebanon must be the top priority. The Ministry of Defence and TNI, he said, must ensure optimal logistical support as well as coordination with other international partner personnel.
“Ongoing evaluations of the dynamics on the ground are necessary so that every policy remains relevant and soldiers can carry out their duties safely,” he stated.
He emphasised that the peacekeeping mission must be upheld with the highest professionalism, upholding humanitarian values, and bringing honour to the nation. Commission I of DPR stressed that all soldiers should always maintain discipline, solidarity, and fighting spirit with a professional attitude.
“Thus, Indonesia’s contribution will become increasingly meaningful to world peace,” he said.
With the support of the Indonesian people, he is confident that the presence of Indonesian peacekeeping troops in Lebanon will strengthen the nation’s diplomacy and serve as an example to the world in realising international stability and security.
Previously, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia will send 780 personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on 22 May 2026.
“The date is 22 (May 2026) as planned. (Numbering) 780 personnel (TNI soldiers departing to UNIFIL),” said Sugiono, who was met after a joint press statement between Indonesia and Singapore in Jakarta on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
