TNI to boycott meetings on shooting

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The Indonesian Military (TNI) will
not attend any meetings to discuss the recent shooting along the
border between Indonesia and East Timor that left First Lt. Deddy
Setyawan injured, a senior TNI officer said on Thursday.

The TNI will talk only after the perpetrators have been
prosecuted by the authorities in East Timor, said the chief of
the Wirasakti Military Command overseeing East Nusa Tenggara,
Col. Amir Hamka Manan.

His statement comes after meetings on Saturday and Tuesday to
discuss the shooting. The meetings were facilitated by a United
Nations military liaison officer.

Deddy was shot in the leg last Friday while he and other
soldiers were patrolling the border between the two countries.
The shooter is believed to be East Timorese. -- JP
