TNI to announce stance Tuesday

JAKARTA:The Indonesian Military (TNI), along with the National
Police, is scheduled to announce its stance over the ongoing
constitutional amendment process on Tuesday, TNI Chief Gen.
Endriartono Sutarto said on Monday.

"We will announce our stance on the amendment process of the
1945 Constitution (on Tuesday)," he said.

The TNI earlier objected to the planned insertion of sharia
law into the Constitution, saying, "the TNI will support the
majority of the people."

TNI is also reluctant to support a direct presidential
election in 2004. --JP
