TNI to announce major reshuffle

JAKARTA: Outgoing Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto said Saturday that he would announce a military reshuffle next week to fill up some key positions.

Endriartono, who tendered his resignation to former president Megawati Soekarnoputri in September, did not reveal the extent of the reshuffle, saying only that the revamp was also aimed at filling the post of chief of the Army's Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad).

The post of Kostrad commander is currently temporarily occupied by Army chief Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu, who has also been appointed acting TNI chief pending approval by the House of Representatives.

The House is currently discussing Endriartono's resignation and Ryamizard's appointment as acting TNI chief. -- JP
