TNI Supports Prabowo's Food Self-Sufficiency Drive, Here Are the Real Results
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is carrying out integrated assistance to support the food self-sufficiency programme, a national priority. This achievement is the result of synergy between the TNI, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), the private sector, academia, and the community.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto stated that the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is providing assistance for sugarcane commodities, the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) for soybean commodities, and the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) for rice commodities.
Agus explained that for sugarcane, the Air Force is collaborating with Sinergi Gula Nusantara, the private sector, and farmer associations. This year, they are assisting 236,048 hectares of sugarcane fields, with a potential yield of 18.3 million tonnes of sugarcane, equivalent to 1.36 million tonnes of white sugar. This amount represents 45 percent of the national sugar production target. The downstream processing of sugarcane produces molasses, bioethanol, organic fertiliser, and animal feed, and supports renewable energy.
Meanwhile, the Navy is assisting 2,432 hectares of land, with a total production of 3,676 tonnes of soybeans across six regions, contributing 0.35 percent to the national soybean production target for 2026. In addition, 3,110 hectares of new land have been opened.
“These efforts enhance food independence and reduce dependence on imports,” he said at a simultaneous harvest event in Malang, East Java, attended by President Prabowo and members of the cabinet on Friday (17/7/2026).
The Army assisted on 479,659 hectares of land in July 2026. From January to June 2026, the total rice harvest area reached 6.26 million hectares, equivalent to a rice production of 19.2 million tonnes. This amount represents a contribution of 55.24 percent towards the national rice production target.
“This grand harvest is tangible proof that the TNI is present in supporting food self-sufficiency and advancing the national economy,” the TNI Commander asserted.
