The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has officially submitted a letter of request to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to examine KontraS activist Andrie Yunus (AY). This examination is intended to supplement the investigation process into the acid attack case that afflicted Andrie.

Head of the TNI Information Centre, Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, explained that previous efforts to take statements from the victim had been delayed due to health constraints.

“On 19 March 2026, investigators from the TNI Military Police Centre attempted to confirm the request for a statement from witness-victim AY, but the doctor did not permit it due to health reasons,” Aulia stated in a written release on Wednesday (1/4).

As time progressed, Andrie is now under LPSK protection. Therefore, the TNI Military Police Centre must coordinate with the agency to continue the examination procedure.

“Subsequently, on 25 March 2026, the TNI Military Police Centre received a letter from the LPSK Chairman stating that witness-victim AY is under LPSK protection,” he added.

Aulia emphasised that the TNI Military Police Centre Commander has sent an official letter to the LPSK Chairman to request permission for taking the statement. This step is taken as a form of TNI’s transparency in overseeing the case to its conclusion.

“The TNI Military Police Centre Commander has sent a letter to the LPSK Chairman regarding the request to obtain a statement from witness-victim AY. TNI is committed to carrying out law enforcement processes openly, professionally, and accountably,” Aulia stressed.

Regarding case developments, TNI has so far designated four soldiers as suspects. All four are now confined in a military detention facility with tight security.

“The four perpetrators have been designated as suspects and are undergoing detention in the maximum-security military detention facility of the Jakarta Regional Military Command (Pomdam Jaya Guntur),” Aulia explained.

The suspects have been detained since 18 March 2026 and are charged under assault provisions. TNI assures that it will continue to process the case in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
