TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency Head Resigns Over Acid Attack Case Involving Andrie Yunus, DPR: Legal Process Must Continue

A member of the DPR RI’s Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, views the resignation of the Head of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais), Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, as a chivalrous step and a form of moral responsibility. The handover of the position by Lieutenant General Yudi occurred amid the controversy of the acid splashing case affecting the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, which is suspected to involve rogue members of the Denma BAIS TNI. “This serves as a good example and hopefully can be emulated by us all. When subordinates commit violations, he demonstrates moral responsibility. The Kabais’s attitude is commendable as a form of accountability and integrity in carrying out duties,” Hasanuddin stated in Jakarta on Thursday (26/3/2026). Nevertheless, Hasanuddin urged that the investigation into this acid splashing case continue comprehensively, transparently, and without intervention. He emphasised that the leader’s resignation does not mean the case is considered resolved at the administrative level alone. According to him, investigators must boldly uncover who the actors are that planned or were behind the incident, going beyond the field executors. “This is important to avoid raising questions and disappointment among the public,” stressed the TNI general retiree. Furthermore, Hasanuddin assured that the DPR RI will carry out its oversight function strictly on this case. He mentioned that the intelligence oversight mechanism in Commission I will work earnestly to ensure the entire legal process is open to the public.
