The Indonesian Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of a TNI soldier due to an Israeli attack on a UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) guard post in Lebanon on Sunday (29/3).

Head of Information at the Ministry of Defence’s Secretariat General, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, stated that the incident occurred amid an exchange of artillery fire.

“There is a casualty from the TNI soldier, namely one person who died,” Rico said via a short message on Monday (30/3).

In addition to the fatality, Rico reported one soldier with serious injuries and two with minor injuries.

Rico added that the soldiers with serious and minor injuries are currently receiving medical treatment.

He also stated that further operational developments will be provided by the TNI.

“One in serious condition, and two with minor injuries,” he said.

The news of the TNI member’s death was previously confirmed by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The attack by Israeli forces occurred near Adchit Al Qusayr.

In his official X social media account, Guterres issued a strong condemnation of the attack that killed one Indonesian peacekeeper serving with UNIFIL.

“I strongly condemn the Sunday incident that killed an Indonesian peacekeeper from @UNIFIL_ amid hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. Another Indonesian peacekeeper was seriously injured in the same incident,” Guterres wrote.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen peacekeeper, as well as to Indonesia. I wish a full recovery to the injured peacekeeper. This is just one of several recent incidents that have endangered the safety and security of peacekeepers,” he continued in his statement.
