Secretary-General of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Muhammad Kholid, has urged the Indonesian government to evaluate its membership in the Peacekeeping Council or Board of Peace (BoP). The call comes after a TNI soldier serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was killed in an Israeli attack on Lebanon. “If there are no adequate security guarantees for TNI soldiers from the UN, the government needs to consider strategic steps, including evaluating the sustainability of Indonesia’s troop deployment in the UNIFIL mission,” Kholid stated in his official remarks on Tuesday (31/3/2026). PKS, Kholid emphasised, strongly condemns the Israeli attack that resulted in the death of the peacekeeping troops. “This incident is not only a major loss for Indonesia but also a warning that the global peacekeeping system is under serious threat,” Kholid said. Additionally, PKS calls for an end to the aggression and for all parties to return to dialogue and diplomacy to maintain world peace. “The sacrifice of Private Farizal Rhomadhon serves as a reminder that Israel’s aggression must not be allowed without sanctions. The world must act to protect those who keep the peace,” Kholid concluded. This adds to the list of fallen TNI soldiers, bringing the total to three members. “In the incident, two TNI soldiers were reported killed, while two others sustained serious injuries. The injured soldiers are currently receiving intensive medical treatment at a healthcare facility in Beirut,” stated Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of Information at the Ministry of Defence Secretariat General, in a press release on Tuesday (31/3/2026). He added that the incident occurred amid increasing intensity of combat in the area. To date, the exact cause of the incident is still being investigated by UNIFIL according to applicable mechanisms. “Evacuation and medical handling measures have also been carried out promptly in accordance with United Nations operational procedures,” Rico explained.
