JAKARTA - A member of the DPR’s Commission I, Syamsu Rizal, has condemned the Israeli attack in Lebanon that killed an Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldier serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping contingent.

According to him, the Israeli attack is unjustifiable and could constitute a war crime.

“This is a very serious action. Peacekeeping forces are present to maintain stability and peace, not to wage war. Attacking them constitutes a violation of international law,” said Syamsu Rizal in his statement on Monday (30/3/2026).

Therefore, he emphasised that such actions must not be allowed to go unpunished without accountability.

“If this was intentional, then it is a very serious crime. The international community must not remain silent,” said Syamsu Rizal.

The Indonesian government is urged to coordinate with the United Nations (UN) to investigate the attack.

Particularly regarding the care for the injured soldiers and the repatriation of the deceased, which must be carried out with full respect.

“The state must be present. The repatriation of the remains must be carried out immediately with full honours, and the injured soldiers must receive maximum treatment,” said the National Awakening Party (PKB) politician.

This incident adds to the list of fallen TNI personnel, bringing the total to three members.

“In the incident, two TNI soldiers were reported killed, while two others sustained serious injuries. The injured soldiers are currently receiving intensive medical treatment at a healthcare facility in Beirut,” said the Head of Information for the Ministry of Defence’s Secretariat General, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, in a press release on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

He added that the incident occurred amid increasing intensity of combat in the area. To date, the exact cause of the incident is still being investigated by UNIFIL according to applicable procedures.

“Evacuation and medical handling measures have also been carried out swiftly in accordance with United Nations (UN) operational procedures,” Rico explained.
