TNI Seals Off Site of Ammunition Depot Explosion in Madiun
The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has sealed off the location of an explosion at the Central Ammunition Depot II in Madiun, East Java, which occurred on Thursday (16/7).
Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Donny Pramono stated that only the investigation team is permitted to enter the area to conduct their inquiry. “The location has been secured and closed off. Only the investigation team is allowed in,” Donny said during a press conference in Jakarta.
According to initial reports, the incident took place while personnel were carrying out inspection and maintenance procedures on munitions. The blast resulted in the death of one soldier, while four others sustained serious injuries and two suffered minor injuries.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the soldier who died in the line of duty and pray for the swift recovery of those injured,” he added.
Donny was unable to confirm the type of ammunition that exploded, stressing that the matter would be thoroughly examined by the investigation team. “We cannot speculate on what exploded or the type of munition involved. We will wait for the investigation team to complete their work,” he said.
