Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Armed Forces Navy (TNI AL) saved state losses of Rp14,751,350,764,090 during 2025 by foiling the smuggling of illegal goods in maritime regions.

The illegal goods successfully seized include tin, coal, lobster seeds, pangolin scales, and other illegal items such as ballpress and cosmetics.

Commander of the Indonesian Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada) RI Rear Admiral TNI Denih Hendrata stated during a press conference at the Koarmada RI Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday that this achievement was accomplished through collaboration with various parties.

“This success is inseparable from the solid synergy and collaboration between the Navy (TNI AL) and Customs, Police (Polri), Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI), local governments, related institutions, and the community,” said Denih.

According to Denih, the majority of smuggling activities occur at certain points such as the Malacca Strait and the South China Sea.

These points are among the locations closely monitored by the Navy (TNI AL) and all maritime security ranks. Nevertheless, Denih assured that the Navy (TNI AL) will not relax surveillance in other areas.

He continued that strict monitoring in maritime regions to anticipate illegal smuggling is still being carried out by the Navy (TNI AL).

This is evidenced by the Navy’s (TNI AL) success in foiling several smuggling attempts from January to May 2026.

“Overall, in the period from January to May 2026, the Navy (TNI AL), in this case Koarmada RI, has successfully saved state losses of Rp112.9 billion,” revealed Denih.

He assured that patrol operations conducted by his forces will continue to minimise state losses from illegal smuggling practices. He also invited the public to collaborate with the Navy (TNI AL) in eradicating such practices.

Some actions the public can take include supporting the Navy’s (TNI AL) performance and providing information to officers about any illegal smuggling activities.

“Let us continue to strengthen synergy and collective commitment to maintain maritime security, uphold the law, and defend the sovereignty of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia,” said Denih.
