TNI Responds to 'Reformasi Jilid 2' Calls Trending on Social Media
The emergence of calls and narratives on social media regarding a possible action titled ‘Reformasi Jilid 2’ has drawn a response from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Although the issue has been widely discussed, the TNI has stressed that it remains ready to carry out its duties whenever required. Recently, a number of social media posts have alluded to the potential for a wave of mass action linked to the national economic situation. This narrative has surfaced amid scrutiny of the rupiah exchange rate’s depreciation and the movement of the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG). Addressing the developing issue, TNI Information Centre Head Brigadier General Muhammad Nas affirmed that the readiness of soldiers does not depend on whether or not a demonstration occurs. According to him, TNI preparedness is part of a duty that must be carried out at all times. ‘Demo or no demo, the TNI is ready 24 hours a day. If I may say so, it is not just 24 hours anymore; my working hours are 25 hours, 8 days, Ma’am. So if we are needed to deploy now, we are ready,’ he said at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. Nevertheless, Nas admitted that the TNI has not yet taken any specific anticipatory steps regarding the circulating news about the potential action. When asked whether there had been any particular preparations or measures taken by the TNI to face the possibility of demonstrations, Nas replied briefly. ‘We have not reached that point yet. Not yet,’ he said.
