TNI ready to assist KPUD in Papua

JAYAPURA, Papua: The Indonesian Military (TNI) are ready to help poll organizer Papua KPUD to distribute election materials to remote areas in the easternmost province of Papua, said TNI chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto.

Endriartono said on Wednesday that the TNI had readied five helicopters in Papua to assist the Papua General Elections Commission (KPUD) in the upcoming general elections.

Two helicopters were on standby at Sentani Airport in Jayapura, and the remaining three helicopters were on standby at Moses Kilangin Airport in the town of Timika.

"Don't rely on the TNI, as we have limited helicopters and aircraft," said Endriartono while accompanying Minister of Home Affairs Hari Sabarno on his visit to the mountainous areas of Papua. -- JP
