TNI pursues armed criminal group behind shooting of civilian in Wenam-Tolikara

Jayapura (ANTARA) - Colonel Inf Tri Purwanto, Head of Information for Regional Military Command XVII/Cenderawasih, said TNI personnel are currently pursuing the armed criminal group (KKB) that shot a civilian identified as AS in the Pertamina Lama Complex, Wenam District, Tolikara Regency, Papua Pegunungan.

He said the shooting occurred on Sunday (16/8) while the victim was inside his house. The perpetrator, believed to be a member of the KKB led by Botak Wanimbo, suddenly opened fire and struck the victim in the leg.

“The victim AS has been evacuated to the Kout Post of Task Force Battalion 511/DY to receive further medical treatment,” said Tri Purwanto in Jayapura on Monday.

He said that according to reports received, the victim’s condition is now stable and he has received medical treatment.

According to Tri, a joint TNI force consisting of members from Military District Command 1716/Tolikara, Battalion 511/DY, and Task Force Rajawali V has been deployed to pursue the shooter.

The pursuit is being carried out to provide a sense of security to the community and to ensure security in the area.

“Security forces urge the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked, because security forces are working to maintain the security situation,” said Tri.
