TNI Psychologist Reveals Personality Patterns of Defendants in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - TNI psychologist Colonel Arh Agus Syahrudin assessed that one of the defendants in the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus has a personality pattern with potential for risky behaviour. Agus made this statement while serving as an expert witness in the trial at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). The four defendants in this case are members of TNI’s BAIS, namely Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetya, and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka. In his testimony, Agus revealed the results of the psychological examination of Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetya. According to him, the defendant’s thought process prioritises practical solutions over in-depth analysis in decision-making and problem-solving. “His personality is independent, rigid, ignores emotional closeness, and is more task-oriented. No pathological indications were found, but the personality pattern has potential for risky behaviour,” he explained. From the psychological test results, Nandala is also said to regret the actions that impacted the victim, family, and institution. “His personality tends to be less warm in relationships, formal, with minimal empathy, and there is a tendency towards impulsiveness with weak self-control,” he revealed. Although no pathological indications were found, the thought process and personality pattern of Budhi are said to have potential for risky behaviour. Agus stated that First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto has significant remorse over his actions. “There appears to be considerable remorse because the actions taken have widespread impacts not only on the individual concerned but also on the victim, family, and institution,” said Agus.
