TNI Processes Repatriation of Corporal Farizal Romadhon, Soldier Killed in UNIFIL Mission
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has stated that the body of Corporal Farizal Romadhon, a soldier who died while carrying out a peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon, is currently undergoing administrative processes for repatriation to Indonesia.
The Head of the TNI Headquarters Information Centre, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, said the body is currently laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters.
“The soldier who died is currently laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters (HQ) and is in the process of completing administrative repatriation to Indonesia, assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut,” Aulia said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday (30/3).
Corporal Farizal was a member of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) contingent, specifically in Company C of UNP 7-1 Task Force Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL.
He died as a result of an artillery attack that struck the Indonesian contingent’s location in Adshit al-Qusyar, southern Lebanon, on Sunday (29/3).
According to Aulia, the attack occurred amid increasing intensity of conflict in the area.
In addition to Farizal, three other TNI soldiers were also victims in the incident.
“Corporal Rico Pramudia suffered serious injuries, while Corporal Bayu Prakoso and Corporal Arif Kurniawan sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment,” Aulia said.
The three soldiers are currently undergoing intensive care in hospital.
The TNI stated it is awaiting the results of the investigation from UNIFIL regarding the incident.
“The incident occurred amid artillery exchanges and to date, the party directly responsible for the incident has not been confirmed. The investigation process is still being carried out by UNIFIL,” Aulia said.
