TNI/Polri help clean residents' homes from flood debris in Parimo

Around 200 TNI/Polri personnel have been deployed to assist in cleaning residents’ homes from mud and wood debris carried by flash floods in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi.

“Approximately 200 TNI/Polri personnel are involved in the disaster response in Avolua Village, North Parigi District,” said Acting Head of the Parigi Moutong Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Moh Rivai when contacted from Palu on Wednesday.

He said the clearing of flood remnants was being carried out using manual tools such as hoes and shovels, as mud deposits were quite substantial inside affected residents’ homes, along with pieces of wood carried by the flood currents.

TNI/Polri personnel, together with BPBD staff and the local village government, have been carrying out cleaning efforts since the morning, and the activity is still ongoing.

He said the Parigi Moutong Regency Government is open to volunteers joining in the post-hydrometeorological disaster response, including logistical assistance from various parties.

“We are open to anyone who wishes to help with disaster recovery, including food supplies. We are ready to receive and distribute them to flood victims,” said Rivai.

He added that the Parigi Moutong Regency Government has declared a 14-day flash flood emergency response status, from 26 August to 8 September 2026.

To date, 12 houses have been recorded as damaged, 50 houses submerged in mud, 68 families or 103 individuals affected, and 12 of those families have been evacuated.

“We have established a main command post as a disaster information centre. We are also considering opening a public kitchen, and we are monitoring the situation on the ground,” he said.
