TNI Opens Possibility of Partnering with National Police to Investigate Acid Attack Case
Jakarta — The Head of Public Information (Kapuspen) of the TNI Military Headquarters, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the military has not ruled out the possibility of cooperating with the National Police (Polri) in investigating the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.
“We will consider cooperation with Polri, because once again, the TNI also has its own legal apparatus and this has been handled by authorised officials within the TNI,” said Aulia during a press conference in central Jakarta on Tuesday.
To date, the military continues to rely on TNI investigative methods to uncover the case.
Aulia explained several reasons why the TNI ultimately decided to take action on this case. One of the main reasons is the public opinion that has developed.
According to Aulia, current public sentiment has created a narrative that appears to accuse the TNI of involvement in the attack.
This narrative, Aulia continued, is a finding that must be followed up by the TNI by participating in uncovering the acid attack case.
“We certainly do not want this narrative to develop in society,” said Aulia.
To prove to the public, Aulia assured that the investigation process into the acid attack on the activist would be conducted transparently and professionally to avoid obscuring the facts of the case.
However, when asked how far the TNI’s investigation had progressed, Aulia was unable to provide specific details.
“It is still in progress. So we ask journalists to be patient,” he explained.
