TNI Neutralises 12 OPM Figures: Lives of Papuan Civilians Cannot Be Bargained
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Commander of the Joint Defence Region Command III, Lieutenant General TNI Lucky Avianto, stated that the safety of Papuan civilians is the top priority in every operation conducted by security forces.
“The safety of the people is the highest law. For us, protecting the lives of Papuan civilians is a sacred trust that cannot be compromised,” Lucky emphasised in his statement, quoted on Saturday (9/5/2026).
The statement was made following the Joint Defence Region Command III’s announcement of 12 figures from the West Papua National Liberation Army-Organisation for a Free Papua (TPNPB-OPM) who were neutralised from January to May 2026.
Nevertheless, Lucky stressed that TNI personnel continue to respond quickly, tactically, and professionally.
“However, it should be noted that the TNI will never hesitate! In urgent situations, we uphold the principle of Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto,” he explained.
The 12 names include Yesias Mate, who served as Logistics Commander of Kodap IV Soraya; Army Kogoya, as Battalion Commander Aluguru of Kodap III Ndugama; Bilip Kobak, as Operations Commander Kimpussa of Kodap XVI Yahukimo; and Dinus Tigau, reportedly serving as Company Commander Tanah Merah.
According to the TNI, action against Jeki Murib was taken after he allegedly launched a counter-attack against TNI personnel in Pinapa Village.
Others include Lau Gwijangge, as Mugie Area Commander; Ket Gwijangge, as Operations Commander Yon Mugi; Peltu Usmabul, reportedly as Deputy Operations Commander Mugi; and Serlu Wonimbo.
