TNI murder rampage suspect tried

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The Military Court was processing the murder charges of Chief Pvt. LI who allegedly shot dead fellow soldiers from Infantry Battalion 621/Manuntung. The trial was expected to be held soon, chief of the 161/Wirasakti Regional Military Command Col. Moeswarno Moesanip said on Tuesday.

"The case is now being processed and it is expected that the military court trial will commence soon," said Moeswarno.

Soldier LI is alleged to have shot two soldiers, one of whom died instantly at the scene last October. LI was reportedly suffering depression at the time. However, a medical report has yet to be completed.

"He was fully conscious and in a normal state of mind when he shot his friends because he attempted to flee into the jungle. I believe he is normal," Moeswarno stressed.

He said LI was likely to be dismissed from the military because of the incident. The soldier was arrested shortly after he fled the scene following the shooting. --Antara
