TNI Military Police Detain Four Personnel in Connection with Sulphuric Acid Attack
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI) has detained four TNI personnel suspected of involvement in the sulphuric acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS). “So, the four suspected perpetrators have now been secured at Puspom TNI for further investigation leading to formal charging,” said Puspom TNI Commander Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto in Jakarta on Wednesday. Yusri also confirmed that the four individuals detained by Puspom TNI are members of the TNI serving in the Headquarters Detachment of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS TNI). The four perpetrators are initialled NDP, SL, BWH, and ES. “We state that all four suspected perpetrators are members of Denma BAIS TNI. So, they are not from any other unit, but from Denma BAIS TNI,” he said. Nevertheless, Yusri could not yet disclose the motive for the acid attack as the examination process is still ongoing. “So, we are also still investigating what the motive is from these four suspected perpetrators,” said Yusri. He stated that the four suspects now face charges under Article 467(1) and (2) of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment. Yusri assured that Puspom TNI will work professionally and transparently, and will ensure that all findings by TNI investigators are presented openly in court. “Puspom TNI will work professionally. We will then report on the stages starting from the investigation process, file compilation, and then when the file is handed over to the Military Prosecutor, so that it reaches the trial process,” he said.
