Jakarta - Analysis from Universitas Nasional’s Political and Military department, Slamet Ginting, assesses that the public requires transparency from the TNI regarding the involvement of four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) in the acid splashing incident against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

“Transparency is no longer merely a choice, but a necessity. Institutional credibility is built on openness, not denial,” said Slamet, when contacted on Thursday night (26/3/2026).

He also appreciated the steps taken by TNI Headquarters, which had announced the involvement of the four BAIS members in a press conference a few days prior.

According to him, openness is one of the important factors in maintaining public trust, especially in handling cases involving state apparatus.

“This swift response sends an important message that the law must still be upheld without regard to the victim’s position or institutional sensitivity,” stated Slamet.

Slamet assesses that transparency serves as a benchmark in evaluating whether the case handling is conducted objectively.

“In situations like this, transparency becomes the most tangible test of integrity, whether the law is enforced objectively or compromised to protect reputation,” emphasised Slamet.

Previously reported, four soldiers from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were involved in the acid splashing action against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus.

This was revealed after the TNI Headquarters Military Police Centre (Puspom) received the handover of the suspects and announced it to the public on 18 March 2026 at 14:00 WIB.

From the announcement, it was revealed that Puspom TNI had detained four BAIS TNI soldiers with initials Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES before they were transferred to the Jayakarta Military District Command (Pomdam Jaya).

They come from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches of the TNI.

Two of the four suspects were the executors of the acid splashing against Andrie Yunus.

However, the other two are still under examination.

Nevertheless, Puspom TNI has not yet disclosed the detailed roles, motives, or complete chronology of the attack.

Most recently, the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, has resigned from his position following the acid splashing case against Andrie Yunus.
