JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A grocery store in Sumur Batu, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, was ransacked due to a dispute between an Indonesian Army (TNI AD) member and two shop attendants.

The incident took place on Sunday (3/5/2026) at a shop named “Adi Jaya” on Jalan Kodam Raya, Kemayoran.

A local resident named Maya (40) initially approached the scene after hearing the commotion.

“The incident was because of QRIS, as far as I know. Because of QRIS,” said Maya when met by Kompas.com at her home on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Initially, an Indonesian Army member bought cigarettes at Adi Jaya shop on Sunday afternoon.

He intended to pay using QRIS because he did not have cash.

However, the shop attendants explained that the online payment was subject to an administration fee of Rp 1,000.

Thus, in addition to the price of a pack of cigarettes, there was an additional Rp 1,000 when scanning the QRIS.

According to the shop owner’s account, the shop attendants had explained the reason for the administration fee.

“That’s because of the admin deduction and all sorts of things,” said Maya.

“The shop attendants also suggested paying in cash if they did not want the administration fee. But the perpetrator did not have cash, so they argued,” she explained.

The TNI member then threatened the shop attendants not to mess with him.

Hearing the threat, a female shop attendant shouted.
