TNI Insists Motive for Terror Against Andrie is Personal Vendetta
Head of TNI’s Information Centre, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, has asked the public to trust the TNI in investigating the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus involving four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais). Aulia stated that all facts behind the terror case will be disclosed transparently in court, including the motive.
“I think the motive has already been explained that this is personal revenge, and we can see it in the open trial that will be held,” Aulia said when met at the House of Representatives complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
Aulia was brief when asked for comment on allegations that the terror against Andrie was planned from the Bais official residence on Jalan Panglima Polim III, South Jakarta. Instead, he stated that the suspicion that the four soldiers attacked Andrie due to personal revenge is the initial finding from the investigation results.
Aulia said details regarding the motive will be clearly revealed in court, including the faces and identities of the perpetrators. “Everything can be seen, it will be explained there,” he said.
A Tempo weekly edition report titled “How the Acid Terror Was Planned at the TNI Bais Official Residence” published on 29 March 2026 revealed that the acid attack operation against Andrie was allegedly planned from the Bais official residence at Jalan Panglima Polim III Number 11, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
Andrie was doused with acid while on his way home at the intersection of Jalan Salemba 1-Talang, Central Jakarta, in the early hours of Thursday, 12 March 2026. As a result of the attack, the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS suffered burns on several parts of his body. He is currently being treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Central Jakarta.
The Metro Jaya Regional Police initially investigated the terror case, then released the initials of two suspected attackers. At the same time, the TNI Military Police Centre arrested four suspected perpetrators with initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant. All four suspects are members of TNI Bais.
The TNI Military Police has handed over the case files of the four suspects to the Jakarta II-08 Military Court in Jakarta. Head of Military Auditor II-07 Jakarta, Colonel Corps of Law (Chk) Andri Wijaya, claimed that the motive for the acid attack carried out by the four suspects was personal revenge. Andri Wijaya stated that the personal revenge was triggered by a previous incident involving the victim.
The incident in question was when Andrie Yunus forced his way into a closed meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law at a hotel in Central Jakarta in 2025. “Yes, there was (the Fairmont Hotel incident). But for more details, we can see and hear the evidence in the trial later,” Andri said in a press conference at the Jakarta II-08 Military Court, as reported by Antara, on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
