TNI Information Chief: Faces of Acid Attack Suspects on Andrie Yunus to Be Revealed at Trial
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the TNI Information Centre, Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the identities of the four suspects who threw acid on Andrie Yunus will be visible during the trial for the reading of the indictment, to be held in the near future.
This statement was made by Aulia in response to questions from the media regarding the reason why the faces of the four suspects had not yet been shown to the public until the case file was handed over to the court.
“I think they will be seen at the trial, as they will also be presented. This will be done, once again, openly and professionally,” said the Head of Information when met at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday.
According to him, the suspects in this case remain four individuals, regardless of findings by Andrie Yunus’s side claiming up to 16 suspected perpetrators. The determination of suspects was said to be in accordance with the investigation results.
“It remains four people, as I have already explained previously during yesterday’s press conference at the information centre and during my release,” he said.
When asked whether there would be further investigation into perpetrators beyond the four currently facing trial, Aulia said that this would be addressed during the trial proceedings.
“We’ll see then. The trial will be conducted professionally. We will also be open in conveying it,” he stated.
“I think once the motive is explained that this is personal, and that will be seen at the trial. It will be open. Everyone can see it then. It will be explained there, at the trial,” said Aulia.
Andrie Yunus, who is the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, was doused with acid in the Salemba area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night (12/3).
The incident occurred after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation, discussing the topic of militarism and the judicial review of the TNI Law.
In its developments, the Military Police have designated four members of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) as suspects, namely Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Second Sergeant ES.
The case file has been handed over to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Thursday.
Fredy stated that the defendants will be presented directly in the courtroom. Their presence is mandatory as part of the process for the military prosecutor to read the indictment.
The Military Court II-08 Jakarta also assured that the trial will be open to the public. The public, including the press, is invited to follow the proceedings to ensure transparency in the legal process.
“The trial is open to the public, just like in a district court. The public and media are welcome to come and monitor the trial,” said Fredy at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Thursday.
