TNI helps construct 17-km road

BENGKULU: Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel have finished
constructing a 17-kilometer road connecting Malakoni and
Banjarsari villages on Enggano island, Bengkulu province.

Local military commander Capt. Rudi Sudjatmiko said on
Wednesday that the road construction project was part of TNI's
social assistance program.

"The construction (of the road), which started in July 2002,
has now been completed," Antara quoted Rudi as saying on
Wednesday.

Initially, a private firm was responsible for the work but it
later pulled out due to financial difficulties and the remoteness
of the region.

Enggano island is situated in the Indonesian Ocean. --Antara
