TNI Headquarters Reveals Identities of Two Fallen Soldiers in Lebanon During Convoy: Captain Zulmi and Sergeant Major Muhammad
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) headquarters has revealed the identities of the soldiers who were killed and injured in southern Lebanon, the area of operations for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), on Monday (30/3/2026).
They are Captain (Inf) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan, Lieutenant (Inf) Sulthan Wirdean Maulana, and Private Deni Rianto.
“The incident occurred amid high escalation of conflict, where an explosion on the vehicle resulted in the deaths of TNI soldiers named Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan,” said TNI’s Head of Information, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, in a press release on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
The incident followed the announcement by the Ministry of Defence and TNI headquarters of four members who became casualties due to Israel’s attack on Hezbollah on Sunday (29/3/2026). The details: one killed and three others injured.
The incident on Monday (30/3/2026) occurred while the Escort Team of Company B Task Force Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL, which is part of the Sector East Mobile Reserve (SEMR), was escorting a convoy of the Combat Support Service Unit (CSSU).
The escort was to support the journey from the UNIFIL East Sector Headquarters at United Nations Post (UNP) 7-2 to the TNI Yonmek Task Force Headquarters Konga XXIII-S/UNIFIL at UNP 7-1.
Nevertheless, amid that escalation of conflict, the vehicle carrying the four victims exploded.
“To determine the cause of the incident, UNIFIL is currently conducting an investigation. TNI is also continuously monitoring the development of the situation and preparing contingency steps in the face of the dynamics in the Lebanon Mission Area,” he emphasised.
Previously reported, a total of eight Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers became casualties in southern Lebanon, based on the latest data from the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
“On 29 March 2026, one TNI soldier was killed and several others suffered injuries due to the impact of the conflict occurring in the operational area,” said Rico in a press release received by Kompas.com on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
“In that incident (on 30 March 2026), two TNI soldiers were reported killed, while two other soldiers suffered serious injuries,” he added.
Rico assured that the soldiers who were injured are currently receiving intensive medical treatment in Beirut.
Rico explained that the victims were carrying out escort duties to support UNIFIL operational activities at that time.
To date, the exact cause of the incident is still being investigated by UNIFIL according to the applicable mechanisms.
