TNI Headquarters Responds to Verdict in Andrie Yunus Case

The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Headquarters has spoken out regarding the decision of the Military Court II-08 Jakarta in the case of an acid attack against human rights activist Andrie Yunus. Head of the TNI Information Centre, Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, emphasised that the Indonesian military institution respects all legal mechanisms and processes that are underway. Nas stated that the TNI also respects the decision taken by the panel of judges. “The TNI is committed to upholding the rules and implementing rewards and punishments for soldiers,” Nas said via short message on Thursday, 11 June 2026. The panel of judges at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta found four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency guilty in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus on Wednesday afternoon, 10 June 2026. They were proven to have committed a premeditated assault resulting in serious injury. The four were found to have violated Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of the KUHP, as per the more subsidiary indictment. First defendant Second Sergeant Edi Sudarko was sentenced to 3 years in prison and dismissed from military service. Second defendant First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and dismissed from military service. Meanwhile, third defendant Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo was sentenced to 2 years in prison, and fourth defendant First Lieutenant Sami Lakka was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. Both were not punished with dismissal from military service. Andrie Yunus’ legal counsel, who are members of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), condemned the verdict for the four soldiers. They assessed that the judicial process was merely a charade that failed to deliver justice. “Today we certainly wish to express, once again, our condemnation and disappointment regarding the state of law enforcement in Indonesia, particularly as reflected in the verdict of the Military Court II-08 Jakarta,” said TAUD member Jane Rosalina Rumpia during a press conference in the Kalibata area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. According to Jane, the verdict actually reinforces impunity within the TNI. She assessed that the military court did not seriously attempt to enforce the law or uncover the truth in the attack case against Andrie Yunus. Jane pointed out that the court only punished four people in the case, whereas a TAUD investigation found indications of the involvement of 16 people in the acid attack against Andrie Yunus. “We see that from the beginning, this trial was indeed created merely as a charade or formality to then protect the TNI institution itself,” Jane said.
