TNI Headquarters: Meeting Between Commander and Police Chief Unrelated to Current Issues

The Indonesian Military (TNI) Headquarters has confirmed that the meeting between TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo was not related to any issues that have emerged recently. TNI Information Centre Head Major General Muhammad Nas stated there was no specific discussion during the meeting. “It was a routine friendly gathering, there was no discussion and no connection to current issues,” Nas said when contacted on Monday (13/7). During the visit, the Police Chief was accompanied by Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, Head of the Internal Affairs Division Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, Head of the Intelligence and Security Agency Commissioner General Yuda Gustawan, and Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency Commissioner General Syahardiantono. Meanwhile, the TNI Commander was accompanied by Deputy TNI Commander General Tandyo Budi, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono, and TNI Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Richard T.H. Tampubolon. Police Chief General Listyo Sigit explained that the meeting was also a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for the TNI and Polri to continue strengthening synergy and solidarity. “Because this is the main key so that our country, as expected by the President, can continue to implement the President’s policy programmes, and all of that can run if the TNI and Polri are solid,” Sigit said. Sigit noted that currently many parties are trying to divide the synergy and solidarity that has been built between the TNI and Polri. “Regarding matters that perhaps need to be discussed and communicated because there are things that may be attempting to divide the TNI-Polri, please communicate directly with all the senior officials present, we are open to that,” he stated.
