TNI Headquarters Explains Soldiers' Revenge Motive Against Andrie Yunus
Head of the TNI Information Centre, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, has urged the public to trust the TNI in investigating the acid terror attack on Andrie Yunus, which involved four personnel from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (TNI). He stated that all facts behind the case will be disclosed transparently at the trial, including the motive for the attack, suspected to be due to personal revenge.
“I think the motive has already been explained as personal revenge, and we can see that at the open trial,” he said when met at the DPR complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
Aulia was brief when asked for comment on allegations that the terror against Andrie Yunus was planned from the Bais official residence on Jalan Panglima Polim III. According to him, the suspicion that the four soldiers carried out the attack on Andrie Yunus due to personal revenge is the initial finding from the investigation results.
Aulia said details regarding the motive will be clearly revealed at the trial, including the faces and identities of the perpetrators. “Everything can be seen, it will be explained there,” he stated.
A report in Tempo magazine’s 29 March 2026 edition revealed that the acid splashing operation against activist Andrie Yunus was allegedly planned from the TNI Bais official residence at Jalan Panglima Polim III Number 11, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
Four law enforcement officers met separately by Tempo stated that the acid attackers gathered at the house, whose photo is blurred on Google Maps. Their faces were captured by surveillance cameras and electronic traffic enforcement cameras on one of the Sudirman Street roads in South Jakarta, before arriving in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta.
Upon arriving in the Menteng area, where Andrie conducted most of his activities that day, Akbar and Budi met with their group. They stalked Andrie throughout the day until splashing acid at the intersection of Jalan Salemba I, Central Jakarta, on Thursday midnight, 12 March 2026, at 23:37 WIB.
The TNI Military Police Corps has transferred the case files of the four suspects to the Jakarta II-08 Military Court in Jakarta. The four suspects are initialled NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant. The four suspects are members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais).
Head of Military Auditor II-07 Jakarta, Colonel Corps of Law (Chk) Andri Wijaya, claimed that the motive for the splashing carried out by the four suspects was personal revenge. Andri stated that the personal revenge was triggered by a previous incident involving the victim.
The incident in question was when Andrie Yunus forced his way into a closed meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law held at one of the hotels in Jakarta in 2025. “Yes, there was (the Fairmont hotel incident). But for more details, we can see and hear the evidence at the trial later,” said Andri in a press conference at the Jakarta II-08 Military Court, as reported by Antara on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
