TNI Habema Operations Command Distributes Two Tonnes of Logistics to Puncak, Central Papua
Soldiers from the TNI Habema Operations Command (Koops TNI Habema) have distributed two tonnes of logistical aid to communities affected by drought across three districts in the Puncak Regency, Central Papua.
“The success of this aid distribution is the result of the cooperation and dedication of all personnel in the field, as well as the support of the local government,” stated Brigadier General TNI Stefie Jantje Nuhujanan, Commander of the Territorial Task Force for Koops TNI Habema, in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.
The aid was distributed on Saturday (1/8) to the Agandugume, Oneri, and Lambewi districts. The delivery was carried out despite unpredictable mountain weather, low temperatures, and rugged terrain that can only be traversed on foot.
Stefie noted that the mission was not merely about delivering aid, but also demanded courage and physical endurance from personnel due to the limited access to the affected areas. He explained that because of the limited aircraft landing sites, logistics had to be dropped at points dozens of kilometres away from several target villages. From those locations, soldiers carried the aid across steep slopes, valleys, rivers, and mountain paths made slippery by extreme weather.
However, he added that all personnel continued to move tirelessly to ensure that humanitarian aid reached the community, which has been facing drought and food crises for months. “Extreme terrain, unpredictable weather, and limited access are not excuses for us to stop. We are ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches the people in need,” he said.
The distributed aid consisted of basic food packages containing rice, instant noodles, sugar, milk for infants and children, and medicines. All logistics were transported via air as the fastest means of access to the isolated mountainous regions.
Stefie stated that the success of this mission demonstrates the presence of the state for citizens facing the impacts of drought and food crises. “The presence of the TNI is not just about security, but also serves as part of the solution to the difficulties faced by the people of Papua,” he said.
He noted that the communities in the three districts have been experiencing drought and food scarcity since June 2026 due to extreme weather, which caused harvests to decline and food supplies to dwindle.
Representatives from the Agandugume, Oneri, and Lambewi districts expressed their profound gratitude to the TNI, particularly Koops TNI Habema, noting that the aid provides new hope for families, especially for infants and children.
The Head of Information for Koops TNI Habema, Lieutenant Colonel Inf. M. Wirya Arthadiguna, stated that the successful distribution of two tonnes of logistics reflects the commitment of the soldiers to remain present in helping the community amidst natural challenges. He expressed hope that the synergy between the TNI, local government, and the community in handling the impacts of drought and food crises in the Papua highlands will continue, ensuring basic needs are met and conditions recover swiftly.
