TNI Habema Launches Measured Operation, Armed Group Threat in Intan Jaya Successfully Prevented

The Indonesian National Armed Forces’ (TNI) Habema Operations Command (Koops) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security stability in Papua. Through a measured, intelligence-based operation, troops successfully took control of a honai suspected of being a transit location for the armed group TPNPB-OPM led by Daniel Aibon Kogoya in Abundoga Village, Intan Jaya Regency. This success is part of efforts to prevent potential security threats before they endanger the public. The operation began with a series of information gathering, field observations, and a meticulous verification process. All stages were carried out considering the regional conditions and prioritising public safety, ensuring the operation was conducted professionally, selectively, and in a measured manner. Head of Public Relations for Koops TNI Habema, M. Wirya Arthadiguna, stated that the operation was conducted after authorities obtained information regarding alleged plans for armed action and consolidation activities by the group in the Intan Jaya area. ‘We do not act on mere suspicion. Every step is preceded by surveillance, verification, and thorough analysis so that the actions taken are truly on target. The most important thing is to ensure the community remains safe and can carry out their activities peacefully,’ he said in a press release on Tuesday (21/7/2026). During the operation, troops secured one organic Lee Enfield firearm of 7.62 millimetre calibre, two homemade firearms of 5.56 millimetre calibre, one dismantled air rifle, a quantity of ammunition, and various other equipment suspected to be linked to the armed group’s activities. All evidence has been secured for further investigation. This success demonstrates the seriousness of Koops TNI Habema in disrupting potential armed threats at an early stage. The seizure of the weapons and equipment found at the location is expected to prevent their misuse in acts of violence that could disrupt public security in Intan Jaya and surrounding areas. Wirya stressed that the operation’s success is measured not only by the evidence secured but also by the authorities’ ability to maintain a conducive situation without causing negative impacts on the civilian population. ‘Every action is taken professionally, based on valid information, and always prioritises the protection of civilians and respect for humanitarian values,’ he said. At the same time, Koops TNI Habema once again called on members of the armed group still in the forest to cease acts of violence and choose the path of peace. The state remains open to anyone wishing to return to the fold of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia through a dignified mechanism, in accordance with legal provisions, and prioritising reconciliation. For TNI Habema, the success of the operation is measured not only by the weapons secured but by the sense of safety restored to the community.
