TNI: Fallen Soldier in Lebanon Undergoing Repatriation Process
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has stated that the soldier who fell during the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon is currently in the process of being repatriated to Indonesia. Head of the TNI Headquarters Information Centre, Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, said the fallen soldier was Corporal (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon, a member of Task Force Mechanised Battalion XXIII-S participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission. “The body is laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters (HQ) of UNIFIL while awaiting the completion of repatriation administration facilitated by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Beirut,” Aulia said on Monday, 30 March 2026.
The incident occurred in southern Lebanon, specifically near Adchit Al Qusayr, on Sunday, 29 March 2026. At that time, an attack took place between Israeli military and armed groups. The attack struck the position of the Indonesian peacekeeping contingent near Adchit Al Qusayr. In addition to one soldier killed, three others were injured, namely Corporal Rico Pramudia with serious injuries, and Corporals Bayu Prakoso and Arif Kurniawan with minor injuries.
Two soldiers with minor injuries have received treatment at the UNIFIL Level I hospital. The soldier with serious injuries has been evacuated by helicopter to St. George Hospital in Beirut for further treatment.
Aulia said the incident occurred amid artillery exchanges in the area of operations. To date, it has not been determined which party directly caused the incident. “The investigation process is still being conducted by UNIFIL,” he stated.
The TNI, he said, has increased vigilance for all personnel in accordance with the standard operating procedures of the UN peacekeeping mission. “The TNI continues to monitor developments on the ground and prepare contingency steps in line with the dynamics in the Lebanon Area of Operations,” he added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has called for an investigation into the incident that killed one TNI soldier. The call was conveyed through an official statement posted on social media platform X on Monday, 30 March 2026. “Indonesia strongly condemns the incident and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement read on Monday.
In a separate occasion, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the incident. Through a statement on platform X on the same day, Guterres mentioned that an Indonesian peacekeeper was killed in an event occurring amid hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
Guterres noted that one other Indonesian personnel suffered serious injuries. He expressed condolences to the Indonesian nation, particularly the victim’s family, and hoped that the injured personnel would recover soon.
According to him, the incident is part of a series of events that endanger the safety of peacekeeping forces. “I call on all parties to fulfil their obligations under international law and to ensure the safety of UN personnel and property at all times,” Guterres said.
