TNI Evacuates AMA Pilot, Separatist Group Hunted

The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Operational Command Habema successfully evacuated the body of PT AMA Air pilot Nicholas F Goselin, who was killed in a shooting at Ipdeheik airstrip, Balinggama Village, Sobaham District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, on Friday. Simultaneously, TNI Habema personnel are conducting a manhunt for the perpetrators suspected of involvement in the shooting and the burning of the aircraft. In response to the incident, TNI Habema immediately launched a special rapid territorial seizure operation to secure the airstrip, which serves as a main entry point for aid. The operation was accompanied by a tactical Search and Rescue mission to evacuate the victim and ensure the safety of the surrounding community. The mission involved 10 TNI Habema personnel supported by two Caracal helicopters. The entire series of operations was carried out swiftly, measurably, and in an integrated manner given the challenging mountainous geographical conditions. TNI Information Centre Head Brigadier General Muhammad Nas emphasised that the TNI will continue to strengthen security in the region while supporting tactical measures against the perpetrators. ‘TNI Habema moved quickly to carry out a special operation to secure the location and evacuate the victim. The TNI will continue to synergise with all relevant elements in maintaining security stability, protecting the community, and supporting law enforcement processes against the perpetrators in accordance with applicable regulations,’ he stated. Meanwhile, Deputy Commander of TNI Habema Brigadier General Riyanto also expressed his condolences over the death of the AMA Air pilot and reaffirmed his unit’s commitment to maintaining regional security. ‘We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our priority is to rescue victims, secure the location, protect the community, and support the legal process against the perpetrators. Through the Special Rapid Seizure Operation and Tactical SAR, we ensured the evacuation process was carried out quickly, safely, and professionally,’ he said. Security operations at the scene and the pursuit of the perpetrators are ongoing. Through TNI Habema, the military will continue to take steps based on developments in the field while prioritising professionalism, cross-agency synergy, and public safety as the main focus.
