TNI Evacuates AMA Pilot, Separatist Group Hunted
The TNI Habema Command has successfully evacuated the remains of PT AMA Air pilot Nicholas F. Goselin, who fell victim to a shooting at Ipdeheik Airport, Balinggama Village, Sobaham District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua, on Friday (3/7).
Simultaneously, TNI Habema personnel are conducting sweeps to hunt for the perpetrators suspected of involvement in the shooting and the burning of the aircraft.
In response to the incident, TNI Habema Command immediately deployed a ‘Rapid Seizure Special Operation’ to secure the airfield, which serves as a primary route for incoming aid. Additionally, the operation included a Tactical Search and Rescue (SAR) mission to evacuate victims and ensure the safety of the local community. This mission involved 10 TNI Habema personnel supported by two Caracal helicopters. The entire operation was executed swiftly, precisely, and in an integrated manner, given the challenging mountainous geography.
Head of TNI Public Relations, Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, emphasised that the TNI will continue to strengthen security in the region while supporting tactical measures against the perpetrators. “TNI Habema Command has moved quickly to execute special operations to secure the location and evacuate the victim. The TNI will continue to synergise with all relevant elements to maintain security stability, protect the community, and support the law enforcement process against the perpetrators in accordance with applicable regulations,” he stated, as quoted from a press release.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commander of TNI Habema, Brigadier General Riyanto, expressed condolences for the death of the PT AMA Air pilot and reaffirmed his unit’s commitment to maintaining regional security. “We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our priority is to rescue victims, secure the location, protect the community, and support the law enforcement process against the perpetrators. Through the Rapid Seizure Special Operation and Tactical SAR, we ensure that the evacuation process can be carried out quickly, safely, and professionally,” he said.
As of now, security operations at the scene and the pursuit of the perpetrators are ongoing. Through TNI Habema Command, the military will continue various steps according to developments on the ground, while maintaining professionalism, cross-agency synergy, and prioritising public safety as the main focus.
