TNI Deploys Main Weapon Systems to Ensure Safe Conduct of ASEAN Summit

This activity represents a routine demonstration of the TNI’s joint operational readiness in addressing various possible situations that may arise in the ASEAN region. Jakarta (ANTARA) - The TNI has deployed its main weapon systems in North Sulawesi province to ensure the security of the Conference of Heads of State (Summit) activities in Cebu, Philippines. The event, attended by President Prabowo Subianto, is known to have taken place from Thursday (7/5) until today, Friday (8/5). “This activity is a form of routine joint TNI operational readiness in facing various possible situations that may occur in the ASEAN region,” said the Head of the Defence Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defence’s General Secretariat, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. For air weapon systems, the TNI has prepared five F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft and one A400M transport aircraft to carry logistics and security personnel for the area. Rico continued that his side is also endeavouring to strengthen VVIP security during the inter-state leaders’ meeting. Although it has prepared weapon systems and troops, Rico assured that the TNI will continue to coordinate with the host country in carrying out every security step. “All activities are carried out in a measured, professional manner, while still upholding the principles of prudence and respect for the sovereignty of friendly nations,” he explained.
