TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto announced that the TNI will join the National Police in securing travel during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus. A total of 105,365 military personnel will be deployed.

“In this regard, the TNI is preparing 105,365 personnel for holiday travel security,” Agus said after participating in a troop assembly at Silang Monas, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Thousands of these troops will be stationed at major points along travel routes, including terminals, ports, railway stations, and land routes. Some will also be tasked with protecting vital facilities in major cities during the Eid holiday season.

In addition to troops, Agus said the TNI will deploy thousands of major weapons systems and equipment (alutsista) from all three branches—land, sea, and air. “A total of 3,501 vehicles including ground vehicles such as ambulances, naval vessels (KRI), and other vehicles,” he said.

Agus assured that the personnel and equipment will remain on standby throughout the exodus and return period. With optimal deployment of personnel and equipment, he is confident that the 2026 Eid holiday travel period will proceed smoothly and safely.

The National Police began securing holiday travel on Friday, 13 March 2026. This security operation will run for 13 days until 25 March 2026.

The Police and TNI held a preparatory assembly at the National Monument before the operation commenced. “Operation Ketupat begins tomorrow and we’re inserting personnel tonight,” said National Police Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho to journalists after the assembly on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

For holiday travel security, the Traffic Corps will utilise technological infrastructure to monitor traffic conditions in real-time. Monitoring is conducted using drones, surveillance cameras, and body cameras used by personnel in the field.

This year, a survey by the Ministry of Transport shows that public movement during the 2026 Eid holiday (1447 Hijri) is predicted to reach over 140 million people. “Based on the movement survey, 50.60 per cent of Indonesia’s population, equivalent to 143.91 million people, will travel during the holiday,” Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said during a working meeting with Commission V of Parliament on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
