TNI Contacts LPSK to Examine Andrie Yunus
The Military Police Centre (Puspom) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) will examine Deputy Coordinator of Kontras, Andrie Yunus, in the acid attack case involving four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). Puspom TNI Commander Major General Yusri Nuryanto has sent a letter requesting the examination to LPSK Chairman Achmadi.
“Puspom TNI Commander has sent a letter to the LPSK Chairman regarding the request to obtain information from the witness-victim brother AY,” said TNI Information Centre Head Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah in a press release on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
Aulia stated that Puspom TNI has received a letter from LPSK confirming that Andrie Yunus has been under LPSK protection since 25 March 2025. Previously, he said, Puspom investigators had also attempted to obtain a statement from Andrie Yunus as the victim on 19 March 2026. However, at that time, the doctor had not permitted it due to health reasons. Andrie had just undergone surgery following the acid solution attack on his cornea on 12 March 2026.
According to Aulia, the four BAIS members suspected of carrying out the attack in this case have been designated as suspects. The four perpetrators, with initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES, have also been detained at the military detention facility Pomdam Jaya Guntur since 18 March 2026. “The article applied to the suspects is for assault,” he said.
The acid attack on Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday midnight, 12 March 2026, at Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta. The human rights activist was then rushed to the Emergency Installation at RSCM on Friday early morning, 13 March 2026, with complaints of burns on his face, neck, chest, back, and both arms, accompanied by vision impairment in his right eye.
The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) rejects the military handling of this case. TAUD urges the government to form a fact-finding team (TPF) to thoroughly investigate and uncover the intellectual authors of the acid attack on Andrie.
TAUD representative Gema Gita Persada said that TAUD believes the acid attack on Andrie Yunus was driven by parties with power in certain institutions. Therefore, the possibility of a chain of command needs to be investigated by an independent TPF involving civil society and integrity figures.
“The push for a TPF is a form of demanding the state to demonstrate its commitment to handling human rights violation cases,” he said at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation office in Jakarta on Monday, 30 March 2026.
