TNI completes bridge construction in Central Tapanuli, improving public access
Medan (ANTARA) - The Natural Disaster Mitigation Task Force (Satgas Gulbencam) of the Kodam I/Bukit Barisan has completed construction of the Garuda Perintis Suspension Bridge in Sipan Village, Sarudik District, Central Tapanuli District, North Sumatra, to facilitate local community activities.
“The bridge construction is an effort to help accelerate recovery and improve the infrastructure needed by the community,” said Colonel Infantry Asrul Kurniawan Harahap, Commander of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan, in Medan on Monday.
Asrul stated that the 120-metre-long bridge with a width of 2.5 metres is now 100 per cent complete and ready for use by the community to support mobility and daily activities following the disaster in the area.
“In the initial construction phase, work began with cutting the old iron pillars and excavating foundation holes as the foundation for the new bridge construction,” he said.
The Kodam commander said that personnel gradually prepared various supporting materials to ensure the construction process proceeded smoothly.
Then in the final phase, he continued, personnel carried out finishing work by tidying the bridge entrance and base, cleaning up the railing, and repainting the railing, pylons, walls, and bridge floor.
“With the completion of the bridge, it is hoped that public access will become easier and safer, and can support the smooth running of social and economic activities for residents,” said Asrul.
