TNI Commander Urges Public Not to Believe Hoaxes, Military to Conduct Patrols to Secure Neighbourhoods
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto has urged the public not to be easily provoked by information circulating on social media whose veracity cannot yet be accounted for. The appeal was made after he attended a coordination meeting with House of Representatives (DPR) leaders and a number of government officials at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (10/8/2026).
The meeting discussed a number of strategic issues. Those present included Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, leaders of House Commission I, leaders of House Commission III, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto.
Agus said information circulating massively on social media has the potential to cause unrest among the public. He therefore asked the public to remain calm and carry on with their activities as usual.
“So earlier we discussed strategic issues. I appeal to the entire public not to be easily provoked by the circulation of news on social media whose truth cannot yet be accounted for, which causes public discomfort. I appeal to the public to continue carrying out their activities as usual,” he said.
The TNI, he said, will continue to conduct patrols in various areas to secure neighbourhoods and create a sense of safety among the public, especially with Independence Day celebrations approaching.
“Let us welcome the celebration of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day with joy, and I am responsible for the security of the public in areas throughout Indonesia. Thank you,” Agus said.
Ahead of the commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day, the TNI is also preparing security measures in various regions. Agus said security operations will be carried out in coordination with the National Police and other elements of society.
“Yes, so we are also coordinating with the Police and other elements of society so that the implementation of security activities can be collaborative,” he said.
